Stefania Spanò, nata a Napoli, vive e lavora nella campagna tra Itri e Sperlonga. Illustratrice grafica, autrice e illustratrice per l’infanzia, da tempo ha intrapreso un percorso di denuncia sociale, come dimostrano molti suoi lavori. Uno di questi è “Unchildren”, un progetto editoriale illustrato che, a partire dal nome, racconta le violazioni subite dall’infanzia nel mondo. 17 illustrazioni stilizzate dai colori forti, che affrontano realtà durissime da accettare, sono ora esposte nella mostra itinerante Unchildren promossa da Terre des Hommes Italia e inaugurata a Milano a Palazzo Marino e dall’8 al 30 giugno 2010 a Roma, presso la Sala Santa Rita del Comune.

Stefania Spanò was born in Naples. She actually lives and works in the countryside between Itri and Sperlonga. She is a graphic illustrator, author and illustrator for children’s books and she has started to use her works to make a social protest. One interesting demonstration is the editorial project Unchildren that shows, starting from its name, the violations suffered by children in the world. Unchildren is also an itinerant exhibition of  17 stylized and coloured illustrations of very hard realities. It has been promoted by Terre des Hommes Italy Association and it will take place from 8th to the 30th of June 2010 in Rome, at the Santa Rita Room of the City.

Chapa Kana, Pakistan. Latif, 9 anni, ne dimostra 6. Adila, 8 anni, ne dimostra 4. Nawaf, 11 anni, ne dimostra 7. Iqbal, 13 marzo 1999 – 28 giugno 2008. Iqbal era malato da due anni. Sono incatenati al telaio per dodici ore al giorno. Mangiano poco e non crescono. Hanno le mani atrofizzate.

Chapa Kana, Pakistan. Latif is 9 years old but he looks 6. Adila is 8 years old but she looks 4. Nawaf is 11 years old but she looks 7. Iqbal was born on the 13th March 1999 and died on the 28th June 2008. He was ill for two years. The job keeps them tied to the loom for 12 hours a day. They eat very little and cannot grow up. They have atrophied hands.

Khulna, Bangladesh. Shelina, 12 anni. Ha respinto le avances di un suo amico di 18 anni. Lui ha riscattato il proprio orgoglio e quello della sua famiglia con il vetriolo. Shelina è rimasta sfigurata, ha perso l’occhio sinistro e il cuoio capelluto.

Khulna, Bangladesh. Shelina is 12 years old. She rejected the advances of an 18 years old friend. He avenged his and his family’s pride with vitriol. Shelina is now disfigured. She lost her right eye and her scalp.

Dipartimento di Nariño, Colombia. Tulia, 7 anni. Indigena Awa. Suo padre è stato ucciso da uomini in mimetica e stivali neri, indumenti in dotazione all’esercito colombiano, tra i paramilitari e tra i guerriglieri rivoluzionari. I loro volti erano coperti. Tulia non potrà descrivere le loro facce.

Nariño, Colombia. Tulia is 7 years old. She is Awa native. Her father was killed by men who were wearing mimetic suits and black boots, clothes worn by the Colombian army and the paramilitary and revolutionary fighters. Their faces were hidden, so Tulia could not describe them.
